The Kristen Bower Eagle Club Endowment at the University of Southern Mississippi is now the school's largest athletic endowment. The Fourth Annual Kristen Bower Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament was held May 3, 2002 at the PineIsle Golf Resort at Lake Lanier Islands, Georgia. Over 240 players attended this years function. This years tournament generated $96,000. Thanks to everyone that participated this year to make this event a huge success. The Kristen Bower scholarship was established in 1997 and is awarded to a former walk-on football player who earns scholarship assistance through hard work and sacrifice. An honor-roll student, cheerleader, as well as a student council and Catholic Youth Organization member. Kristen enjoyed photography, gymnastics and tennis. Kristen was tragically killed on Sept. 13, 1997 after she lost control of her automobile on Hwy # 42 in Petal, MS. To show her support and love for her father, Kristen always wore her father's familiar # 7 Southern Miss football jersey to all home games. During the funeral at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Coach Bower placed the jersey over the closed casket. |
