Orlando, FL - The Eagles (9-1-1) found themselves in a defensive battle against a scrappy Tiger team. Missouri (7-4) began their lead in the first quarter and continued to dominate on the field throughout most of the game as they contained the Eagle offense and broke through the Nasty Bunch defense.
USM's first touchdown came in the third quarter after an interception by Eagle sophomore cornerback Bruce Miller.
Southern Miss' long awaited comeback came late in the 4th quarter as senior reserve quarterback Davy Sellers replaced REggie Collier who left the game with a neck injury. ON Seller's second play of the game, he completed a long pass from the Eagle 26 to Louis Lipps on the Missouri40 yard line. Lipps carried the ball in for USM's second touchdown of the evening.
This new burst of energy revived the spirits of the Southern Miss faithful, who were freezing in the stands, but with only 1:03 left to go in the game, it wasn't enough. Time ran out before the Eagles could rally another score.
Bruce Miller was the game's defensive MVP. |
