Orlando, FL - Mississippi Southern had evey opportunity in the world to win the 12th Annual Tangerine Bowl, but East Texas State found a way to prolong an MSC Bowl victory, defeating the Southerners 10-9. The Lions scored the first touchdown of the game when Garry Berry went in from the three-yard line. MSC quarterback, George Sekul, then engineered a drive that resulted in his scoring on a one-yard plunge. Before the half ended, the Lions center snapped the ball over the punter's head and out of the end zone, giving coach Pie Vann's club a 9-7 halftime lead. With 7:47 left in the game, East Texas State's Neal Hinson connected on a 31-yard field goal that was the eventual winning score.
Southern's Curry Juneau was cited for his outstanding defensive play. |
