Presidential Scholarship none Because these are the most prestigious academic scholarships offered at Southern Miss, Presidential Scholarships are designed to cover the cost of attendance for four years. This includes tuition, out-of-state fees (if applicable), room, board, and books (approximately $30,000 for in-state students). Typically, National Merit and Achievement Finalists, as well as students scoring at least 30 ACT/1310 SAT, are invited to participate in the Presidential Scholarship interview competition held in February. Scholarship winners must also enroll in the Honors College. Students receiving this award must: Maintain academic good standing Maintain minimum 3.25 GPA Enroll in the Honors College Approximately $30,000 Students must have a completed Honors College application on file by February 1 to be considered for this scholarship.
Olliphant Scholarship none Designated for Honors College students who demonstrate an outstanding record of leadership, commitment of service to society, and an exemplary record of academic achievement. Students receiving this award must: Maintain academic good standing Maintain minimum 3.00 GPA Enroll in the Honors College Stipend of $3,000 over four years, payable at the rate of $750 per year February 1 The application for the honors College serves as the application for this scholarship .
Honors College Scholarship none Enrollment in the Honors College Students receiving this award must: Maintain academic good standing Maintain minimum 3.00 GPA Enroll in the Honors College Honors College students will receive a $1,200 scholarship over four years, payable at the rate of $300 per year Priority application deadline March 15
National Merit Finalists/Semi-Finalists none Students recognized as National Merit Semi-Finalists. Students recognized as National Merit Finalists who list Southern Miss as their first choice Students receiving this award must: Maintain academic good standing Maintain minimum 3.00 GPA National Merit Semi-Finalists can qualify for up to $12,000 over four years, payable at the rate of $3,000 per year. National Merit Finalists can qualify for up to $16,000 over four years, payable at the rate of $4,000 per year. March 1
Academic Excellence Award none Students receiving these awards should demonstrate strong academic ability and high class rank, and typically meet the qualifications listed below: $8,000 Award: ACT composite score of 32 (SAT 1380) or higher and a high school GPA of 90 or higher or National Achievement Semi-Finalist $5,000 Award: ACT composite score of 30-31 (SAT 1310 - 1370) and a high school GPA of 90 or higher $3,000 Award: ACT composite of 28- 29 (SAT 1230 -1300) and a high school GPA of 90 or higher Students receiving this award must: Maintain academic good standing Maintain minimum 3.00 GPA $8,000 Award: payable over four years at the rate of $2,000 per year or $1,000 per semester $5,000 Award: Payable over four years at the rate of $1,250 per year or $625 per semester $3,000 Award: Payable at the rate of $750 per year or $375 per semester April 1
Leadership Award none Exceptional involvement and abilities both inside and outside of the classroom. Students applying for this award are selected to compete for these scholarships. Students must submit the leadership scholarship application, a resume or list of activities and honors, and two letters of recommendation. One letter must be from the high school counselor or principal, and must validate leadership qualities and achievements. On-campus interviews are held during March Students receiving this award must: Maintain academic good standing Maintain minimum 3.00 GPA Live on campus $8,800, payable over four years. This scholarship is payable at a rate of $2,200 a year and is applied toward the cost of on-campus housing. January 12
Regional/Out-of-State Award none Generally based on ACT/SAT scores (typically 24/1090 and above), academic achievement, and student involvement Students receiving this award must: Maintain academic good standing Maintain minimum 3.00 GPA Represent a waiver of nonresident fees only March 15
Alumni Scholarship none Available to students whose parent is an active, contributing alumni member. The student must achieve a composite ACT score of 21 (SAT 970) or above to be eligible to receive this award. Community/Junior College Leadership Award none Community/Junior College student leaders, artists, and scholars may be considered for this award. Selection is based on grades, leadership (in school and community), activities, recommendations, and an essay submitted by the student. These scholarships are available for students entering USM fall term only. Students must have completed 54 semester hours of community/junior college work. Students receiving this award must: Maintain academic good standing Maintain minimum 3.00 GPA Awards range up to $4,800 ($2,400 per year) May 1
Community/Junior College Achievement Award none 3.50-4.00 GPA on at least 54 semester hours of community/junior college work and membership in Phi Theta Kappa Students receiving this award must: Maintain academic good standing Maintain minimum 3.00 GPA $1,400 payable at the rate of $700 per year (This award cannot be stacked with the Community/Junior College Leadership Award Application deadline is August 1 for students entering in the fall semester. Application deadline is December 1 for students entering in the spring semester.
